Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian martial art devised by slaves on the plantations over 500 years ago. It combines fighting with elements of acrobatics, gymnastics, music, dance and song. It is practiced in a ring called a "roda" where participants play Capoeira, clap, and sing songs about slavery and Brazilian stories.
This course will offer an insight into this complex yet life enriching art form. Participants will be shown basic Capoeira movements and songs and will have the opportunity to learn a few rhythms on the instruments and learn a little about how Capoeira came about.
The courses would break the art down into much more detail and would take students more slowly through the different fundamental movements and positions charateristic of Capoeira. It would delve further into the magical side of the art, the malice, the game and the mandinga!
