The physical and visual aspects of nature are timeless inspirations for my work always providing me with ready-made designs in terms of texture, colour and pattern. When using traditional techniques such as shibori (resist shaped dyeing), stitch and natural dyeing I am organically imitating natural forms, interpreting and distilling nature's cycle of life into art. Creating a theme as well as process.
When the fabric is transformed with shibori, natural dyes and hand manipulation, the energy of the shaped cloth and pleats responds to the movement of the water or a natural landscape. Each natural dye in the process of shibori is drawn slowly to the fabric by capillary action, and the resulting graduation of hues and patterns are a happy combination of traditional, natural processes and my intuition.
